Samsung introduces direct payment system on Smart TVs

It has even tied up with PayPal and introduced a secure encrypted keyboard to ensure that hackers don’t take away your payment details by getting into your TV.

The TV payment system will only work on Samsung Smart TV and will initially launch in 32 markets.

Although Smart TVs have been in the market for almost a decade, premium content was made available only to users with subscriptions, which one had to process using a browser on a desktop, laptop or a mobile device.

The current mechanism will enable a user to directly make the payment on their Smart TVS and as Samsung says in three simple steps.

Samsung in its announcement said the payment service was designed from scratch and supports major credit cards, debit cards, PayPal as well as other mobile billing options.

“The beauty of it is that in most cases, users can complete a payment in just three steps after the initial registration setup.

“First, choose the item you want to purchase. Then simply press the ‘Pay Now’ button, and enter the PIN (Personal Identification Number). That’s it!” it said in a note.

Providing details about the security mechanisms in place Samsung says it has teamed up with PayPal.

“PayPal users can expect the same level of sophistication when it comes to keeping their financial information secure as they do on a PC or mobile device,” it said.

The company also said that it has developed Samsung’s Secure Keyboard – the world’s first secure virtual keyboard and input mechanism on a TV – to enter credit/debit card information or PayPal password.

Users can also transfer the account details and cards registered on their Samsung mobile device to the Samsung Smart TV.
